Science Kit Ordering for 2009-2010

Please see your buildings Lead Science Teacher to sign up for ordering your science kits for next year. There will be 3 deliveries made throughout the school year starting in August… If you have NOT been trained on a particular kit, please do not sign up to recieve it as I will not be able to order it through the coalition. If you have any questions or concerns, please see your lead teacher first or feel free to email me directly.

Thanks to Erica Boykin (6th grade) at Gunning Bedford we have access to two websites as supplemental resources for the Human Body… These interactive sites could compliment both 3rd grade Human Body and the 6th grade My Body and Me units. Please check them out and let us know what you think.

In addition, science kits are too be delivered on Thursday, August 21st so please check to ensure you receive the correct kit.

Welcome to Another School Year 2008-2009

Just wanted to take a moment to welcome new and experienced teachers back for another exciting school year. This is the 2nd year of our Colonial Science blog site and I am looking forward to taking the next step in using this blog as a needed resource during the school year…

Shortly, I will be posting more valuable information for both new and experienced teachers including Elementary kit training schedules, UBD Templates, and access to the state Grade Level Expectations.

My hope is this site becomes a stepping stone for any teacher involved in the science curriculum to come and share their personal teaching experiences, resources, and/or just to discuss particular science kits and activities.

Good luck with the start of the school year and I look forward to our future discussions.

Science Kit Information

Just a few notes as we get closer to the end of the ‘07-’08 school year…

1 – Final Science kit pickup is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4th so please ensure that all kits are packed and ready to go before you leave school on the 3rd. Kit pickup’s usually begin early in the morning on the 4th and we don’t want to have any kits left in the schools over the summer.

2 – Kit orders for the ‘08-’09 school year are now being scheduled in each of the buildings. Please see below for the date and time I will be attending at each school:

April 14th and 15th – Wrangle Hill

April 23rd – Carrie Downie

May 6th @ 3:30pm – Colwyck and Wilmington Manor

May 14th @ 3:30pm – Castle Hills

May 19th @ 3:30pm – Southern

May 20th @ 3:30pm – Pleasantville

I have also attached the kit order form. Simply click on the attachment to recieve a copy of the form to be completed and returned to me at Wallace Wallin.

5th Annual Science Showcase

The 5th Annual Colonial District Science Showcase kicked off last Wednesday, April 23rd… Participants of all ages from all across the district came together to celebrate a world of science and discovery.

This event would not have been possible without the continued efforts and dedication of our science leadership council and those teacher and student volunteers. A heart-felt thank you goes out to all those who gave their time and energy in making the showcase such a wonderful success.

The 5th annual Colonial School District Science Showcase is rapidly approaching… This festive event featuring displays, live demonstrations, interactive activities, games, food and fun will be held on Wednesday, April 23rd from 6-8pm at William Penn High School.

All are invited to attend so please join us in a night of wonder and discovery as we take a journey into the world of science…

If you would like to volunteer to be a part of or just assist in setting up or cleanup please contact Linda McLeod at your earliest convenience.
